چکیده

Cooperative information agents need mechanisms that enable them to work together eeectively while solving common problems. We investigate the use of commitment by agents to proposed actions as a mechanism that allow agents to work concurrently on interdependent problems. Judicious use of commitment can not only increase the throughput of cooperative information systems, but also allow them to deal exibly with dynamically changing environments. We use the domain of distributed scheduling to demonstrate that static commitment strategies are ineeective. Results from simulated experiments are used to identify the environmental features on which an adaptive commitment strategy should be predicated.

The role of negotiation and TA in Iranians’ second language acquisition

In this study, it is attempted to survey some intervening factors leading L2 Iranian learners’ not to be successful as well, and then seeks some of the features that might be applicable to open new windows into L2 learners in Iran. Also it concerns some aspects of language learning, which have received poor attention from both pedagogical and non-pedagogical areas. This article examined some so...

Cooperative, Multistep Negotiation over a Multi-dimensional Utility Function

We present a cooperative, multistep negotiation mechanism for multiagent systems. This mechanism uses marginal utility gain and marginal utility cost to structure the negotiation process. This enables an agent to understand another agent’s situation in order to find a solution that increases their combined utility. These two values summarize the agent’s local information and reduce the communic...

A Commitment-Based Framework for Describing Informal Cooperative Work

In this paper we present a framework for describing cooperative work in informal domains such as an office. We argue that standard models of such work are inadequate for describing the adaptibility and variabil ity observed in offices, and are fundamentally misleading as metaphors for understanding the skills and knowledge needed by computers or people to do the work. The basic claim in our alt...

Multi-Dimensional, MultiStep Negotiation for Task Allocation in a Cooperative System

We present a multi-dimensional, multi-step negotiation mechanism for task allocation among cooperative agents based on distributed search. This mechanism uses marginal utility gain and marginal utility cost to structure this search process, so as to find a solution that maximizes the agents’ combined utility. These two utility values together with temporal constraints summarize the agents’ loca...
